THE HISTORY OF 20 W HUBBARD
Built in 1884, the building at 20 W Hubbard has spent more than a century in the business of making things.
In its earliest days, the space operated as a fruit processing facility serving Chicago’s growing commercial food trade. By the early 1900s, historical records show the building housed a wash powder manufacturer, part of the city’s booming industrial economy at the time.
As the neighborhood evolved, so did the building. It later became a metal manufacturing shop before transitioning into a print shop, which occupied the space from the late 1970s through 2015.
From 2015 to 2021, the space entered a creative chapter as a fashion showroom for designer Josh Kercher.
Today, the same walls that once held fruit crates, factory equipment, and printing presses are home to XYZ Studios, a multimedia production space built for modern creators.
20 W Hubbard has always been a place where things get made.
